It is the second 3D game in the award-winning and profitable Grand Theft Auto franchise, being the fourth in the series overall. It was released in North America on October 27, 2002 for the PlayStation 2 and quickly became the best-selling game of that year. Following its success, the game was released in Europe, Australia and Japan and was released in a Windows version. Rockstar Vienna also packaged it with the previous game in the series, Grand Theft Auto III, and sold it as Grand Theft Auto: Double Pack for the Xbox.[1] The fictional city called “Vice City” was based on the American city of Miami in the 1980s, with art deco buildings and faithfully portraying the era in music, clothing and cars. The atmosphere of the game is heavily influenced by the film Scarface and the TV series Miami Vice.
